Increasingly over the past several years we have been asked to apply our retail design expertise to “non-retailers” or non stores: professional practices, manufacturers, institutions, associations, developers, even governments. Traditionally Interior Design firms have specialized in residential, institutional, office, hospitality and retail. The puzzle is why, as retail experts, are we being sought out to design non-retailers?

Sparks Custom Retail & Liz Claiborne New York
Recognized at 2010 A.R.E. Design Awards

March 17, 2010 (Philadelphia,PA):  Sparks, a global custom retail fixture company headquartered in Philadelphia, is proud to announce that its custom shop-in-shop project for Liz Claiborne New York Spring 2009 Launch in Macy’s Herald Square, New York was recognized as an Outstanding Merit project for “Softline Shop Within a Store” at the annual Association for Retail Environments (ARE) Awards.

The A.R.E. awards recognize excellence in store and fixture design across a variety of environment categories.  A panel of eight judges selected grand prize and outstanding merit designees in January, and winners were honored at a ceremony at GlobalShop on March 10, 2010.

“We’re very excited and honored to have our work recognized by the prestigious 2010 A.R.E. panel,” says Matt Wood, President of Sparks Custom Retail.  “And we’re so happy to bring additional accolade to our valued partner and client, Liz Claiborne.”

This particular design package utilized a combination of eclectic white fixtures, which varied in size, finish and inspiration, from the modern to the industrial.  Glossy pieces were complemented with matte powder coated fixtures, and white patent leather tufted pieces shared space with hand-painted elements…even some with modest brass accents.  This feminine white backdrop allowed the merchandise to pop and grab the attention of the shopper, drawing them into a beautiful, bright space.

The Macy’s Herald Square Liz Claiborne New York shop-in-shop was recognized among the many that Sparks managed during the relaunch of Liz Claiborne New York brand that gained its new brand vision from the esteemed designer Isaac Mizrahi.  Sparks managed the engineering, production and installation of this fixture program in over 100 locations worldwide.
